Stolen freedom in dog training

Stolen freedom in dog training

The most popular words I hear from owners are stubborn, sneaky, stealing and naughty. Dogs are always sneaking away, stealing food, too stubborn to listen or just plain naughty! Right, admit it you have caught your self saying these words on more than one occasion,

But are dogs really “trying” to be all these things or are we allowing them to self re enforce. Which means we are setting them up be allowed to in act in these behaviors just to reach the end of a self re enforced reward.

Stealing from counters sure the dog is going to do it because last time he got a steak, why wouldn’t he? They aren’t stealing anything they may run in hide after words because has humans say “he knows he did wrong.” No, they take the emotion of you storming in the kitchen with act of either putting feet on the counter or eating the steak.

Next time you say your dog is one of the above sit back and say are they? Probably not. Set it up to complete the task you want with the reward you have set, not the other way around.
