Dog training starts with a vision

Dog training starts with a vision

Have you ever told your dog to not do something then it does it? In our head we assume its just because the dog wants to disobey us. But when you walked away did you picture your dog doing exactly what you asked it not to do?

I bet you did didn’t you!  I get asked so many times “how do you get your dog to do that?” It’s a state of mind. I don’t think they can’t or won’t do something I make sure I know it can do it.

Many times when I work with a client and their dog I hear ” maybe” or ” will he” ” I don’t know if he can.” I always remind them that there is no “maybe” or “will her” “you don’t know,” it is always “he will do it” “he can do it.” When we change our state of mind the dog feels it and reads off of it.

I many times think we live in a society we taught we are going to fail no matter how we try. We aren’t given options to try and solve the problem. We just have it in our mind we will fail and when it comes to training our dog we set it to fail. We do not go into the training wth a state of mind saying “we got this buddy!”  It’s more like ” I don’t know if you can do this.”

So the next the time you are working with your dog and your dog keeps failing change your state of mind and see what you are thinking? If what you are thinking is what you want the success to look like I bet your dog will sure try to do what you ask!
